About Kateri

As a singer and educator, soprano Kateri Gormley believes in the transformative power of music in today’s society. Kateri has performed recitals in Chicago, New York, Montreal, Vancouver, and Vianden, Luxembourg. She is equally at home in opera, chamber, and concert repertoire, and has been praised as “irresistible” by L’Opéra magazine for her portrayal of Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro. As a soloist, her concert performances include the Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël, Rutter’s Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G Major with Trinity United Methodist Church Chancel Choir in Wilmette, IL, Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Hadyn’s Missa Sancti Nicolai with the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, and Faure’s Requiem and Bob Chilcott’s Requiem with the North Shore Choral Society.

A frequent interpreter of American music, Kateri attended Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar in Potsdam, NY as a Vocal Fellow, performing works by Lori Laitman, Tom Cipullo, and John Musto. She collaborated with Lyric Opera Unlimited in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons, debuting the role of “Kenzie” in Earth to Kenzie by Frances Pollock and Jessica Murphy Moo. 

As a teacher, Kateri has worked with singers and actors of all ages and experiences. She believes that everyone can benefit from a deeper connection to one’s voice, and that with greater ease and coordination comes clarity of expression. The Alexander Technique is a profound influence in her own performing career, and she passionately shares her knowledge of the technique with her students.

Kateri is the winner of the 2018 Lynne Harvey Foundation Scholarship, in Honor of her Sister Virginia Cooper Maier from the Musicians Club of Women. She maintains a private voice and Alexander Technique studio, and holds degrees from McGill University (M.Mus.) and SUNY Fredonia (B.Mus.) and is a certified Alexander Technique teacher (M.AmSAT).
